Saturday, January 22, 2005 Saw another film that truly provokes u to think abt your life and the world out there. Somewhere out there in the heart of Africa, millions of people died and we continued living our normal lives of watching tv, studying, eating without batting an eyelid. To tink that it occured barely ten years ago..Fancy 800 000 slaugthered to death in over 100 days. THat averages to 8000 heads per day, 333.333 per hour, 5.5555 per minute. That's 10% of the population for you. Strange my heart still aches for those who have died while the so-called world powers stood unmoved and watched on silently. To confess a truth, i was one of those ignorant people in the world who barely knew wat happended then. Extreme points in the movie really rendered it heart-wrenching... when the UN colonel commented that the world namely the super-powers viewed the Rwandans as nothing more than dirt, even lesser than a negro. when you are labelled as a cockroach and wherever you escape, you leave a scent trail that's stench to many. when heaps of bodies, young and old, female and male, piled and scattered all over the dusty road and the only way to get across is to run the tires over those dead bodies. when your husband has to request that you and your children jump from the buidling should anything happen so that at least the deaths will have been more merciful. when you hear some sociologist on the radio busily trying to define the definition of genocide while the killing rages on. Catch Hotel Rwanda and i truly believe it'll leave you a different person when you walk out of the theatre. Somehow, whatever nonsense i had to bear in my work seemed a tad lighter and non-to-serious to mention nor r worthy to comment on this blog. Took a rare walk from sch back hm on thursday evening after clocking in a 12-hr day. In heels. Big Guy does have a humourous way to brighten up a gal's day. Truly. Jay's live concert cd's finally out and urs truly is a proud owner of that. Rediscovered U2's power after buying their best collections album for a mere 9.95 @ Borders.
