Sunday, May 08, 2005 Time's passing so fast i can't seem to catch hold of every minute fully.Just the other day, i entered a lift with this man holding a ciggie in his hand. I held my nose but to no avail. Obviously someone walking so admantly into the lift will not be bothered by someone else suffocating in its smoke. Practising the fruits of the spirit (namely self-control & lovingkindness), I mentally counted to see when i will explode. Well, as luck will have it, he got off at the fifth floor. As for me, i grew in self control.woo. The other patience testing time was when i was buying bak chor mee - the rather famous tamp st81 version and i was literally standing for 30 mins, watching countless steaming bowls of hot bak chor mee soup pass me by...and watching with an eager eye to c when the bak chor mee master would manoeuvre his hand to reach out for the take-away plastic.According to observed statistics, it takes approximately 20 bowls (eat-ins) before he decides to pack the orders. It takes an average of 2 to 3 minutes to cook the noodles, bar chor and pour all into the bowl. So much for efficiency. I realised the bottleneck for this stall lies in the cook. He does everything...and i mean EVERYTHING - from the noodles to getting the ingredients to the pouring. What do the helpers do? Take orders and serve. Of course there was plenty of moments when there were lapses of orders and finished bowls to carry, so they entertain the customers who return to the stall complaining that their orders were still not served. Good things come to those who wait....especially good bak chor mee soup. Hence i stood, and stood....and stood. The rarely seen smile from the lady boss appeared with a statement that says yours is coming after a few bowls. Which i nodded with a 'yeah that'll be gd and i'll continue to wait like a idiot'. Which i proceeded to do. That meant another 10 bowls of eat-ins. Which aint that bad..as i grew again in 'patience', another worthy fruit of the spirit. Had a charity walk organised by the Clan association...or rather clan associations...some combined feudal..i mean federal combo power. Came with a neat red t-shirt that contains cheena printing of words and slogans. Which of cos urs truly thinks u will realli make HUGE fashion statement to just appear in one of them. Which of cos urs truly conveniently lost hers and turned up in her own red top, who was then promptly eyed by other staff who made HUGE fashion statements that day. "Eh..how come u not in the T-shirt?" "SUE ME lah!" Which at that moment, i noticed out of the corner of my eye, my dear supe standing there. Which i quickly added... "Oh...too big lah. gave my small to one of my kids. The big one can see my breasts thru the arm holes." I m indeed a rebel with a cause, upholding juistice for all! Doing a quick count, there's a total of 3 (including me) who did not turn up in that flashy red T, out of the entire population including the big boss. Must applaud someone's painstaking effort to take hers to a tailor and had it altered to a cute mini-T-shirt fit for wearing. From wat i overheard, she's dumping it after that walk. Oh, and i forgot to mention the objective of this supposedly charity walk. It's a bid to promote CHinese language and culture. How apt to get hundreds of ppl to walk along the S'pore river as ang baos with the Chinese dance gals (heavily made up of cos) holding mini-drums at their sides leading the way. A true display of the wonders of the Chinese. Trivial aside, seriously recommending this album to all who r sick of pop tunes and yearning for light accoustic sounds. O by Damien Rice...features the uber cool song 'Blower's Daughter' among others. Strangely wanted to blog stuff deeper to my heart..juz cant find the mood for it. Enjoy my crap...=) Bar chok mee lover signing off.. Over.. and OUt.
