Happy Birthday to meIf self-worth and esteem were based on the number of smses you receive on your special day, then I'll have to conclude that I do made a slight difference and significance to someone else's life, or to the world in general.
It has been ages since I felt appreciated or remembered, or how good that feeling is. Not that there are no appreciations or affirmations given, just that everyone's been pretty busy and I am learning to cope with teaching in the day and lessons at night. A total tally count gives me 2 available and free weekdays and of course one precious weekend off. It was really nice for someone to take a moment, pause and send a message. I know I may not have done that much since being swept up with work and life in general, but I now know I do need to pass on the goodwill by doing the same. Just one tiny problem...their birthday records! Ironically, I was the i/c for birthday gifts for staff. Big Guy does have a very acute sense of humour.
Originally planned to blog about the night happenings but I guess I'll just briefly bring you through the 'events'.
Dinner was over, cake was eaten, song sung, wishes made. Wandering ended at Marche for some drinks and chat. Laughter, silly jokes, dumb riddles, basic fun entertainment that brings tears to your eyes.
More wandering, which left us short of 2 gals and eventually settled in brix but not for long. Never seen anyone so uncomfortable in a place before so we left. Gal went home w deb and it was really an awkward moment. Did feel bad y she had to leave like that and frustrated at the same time as I really wanted to settle down somewhere for a drink. Felt bad for feeling bad...and it took a while for that to be settled. Ended up at a cafe w the other gals for chat. And I had to msg the gal involved a msg meant for deb who was sending her back. Couldn't believe that I did it. So there...my terribly supposed simple and uneventful night turned out to be a mini-drama in disguise.
