Friday, October 27, 2006 The ReckoningShall avoid the same complaints that I have made multiple times on this blog about lotsa work, deadlines and stuff. Time really flies, whether you want it to or not. David's getting married tomorrow..will interesting to attend a wedding without knowing anyone familiar except for the groom. Seems like more people have stepped onto the other side of the green pasture - even Shu's on her way there in December. It is always things like that that makes you reflect on your own life, decisions you have made, and sometimes, decisions that you wish you can make. I wonder whether one can stay in the same state when all around are changing and moving on...and you yourself becomes the only constant. What's that word in economics? Oh yes, ceterus paribus (hopefully the correct spelling, will be pretty embarrassing to get it wrong as a language teacher). Was really interesting when I met 2 kindred spirits during the marking season. And the best part was meeting Mich at the same centre! I literally hopped in joy in the hall when I saw her! Anyway the 2 new-found frens were Mabel and May Ling, such sweet and nice people! I was very glad I didnt really stick just to my own colleagues since I was in a different room, if not I'll never have found these two sweeties. Knew it's quite difficult to actually meet and go out but you never know. I am just blessed to know them, esp Mabel coz we did share a few stuff along the way and it was really nice just talking, something which I haven't manage to do in a while. I may someday achieve a stage of Zen-ness if I continue to be so busy and not be able to share with anyone but Big Guy. Seriously, there are sometimes just somany things happening and due to the lack of time and appropriate people around, I just seem to swallow all of the happenings up and kept them to myself. It is also a privilege to have my sis around most of the time because there times I simply needed to download things and she's a ready, trusty receiver. MAybe I should highlight some changes since it's been a while I came in here. For one, my VP thinks that my Chinese aint that bad, esp after the immersion trip. Even Shu's bf thinks so. Must be my sis who's been downloading me w some Taiwanese idol drama which I must admit, I am seriously hooked, so as the language experts say, the more you surround yourself with the correct environment, the more adept you will be in using the language. Listening, speaking...it's all around. See, it does not help that Jay chose this opportune time to release his album, so I get a chance to read really meaningful lyrical phrases in my Mother Tongue, to understand what they really mean and then practice singing them! The Chinese songs in my media library are growing at such an astonishing rate that I am starting to shudder. There used to be only one J that I am swooning over, now I'm finding myself besotted with a Taiwanese (a correction - my sis says he's Malaysian) boyish actor cum singer. How low can one go, I wonder!? Come on, face it. It doesn't get any worse when you log on to youtube and catch drama serials in 10min clips per time and since the drama is still airing in Taiwan, you wait literally a whole week to view one episode. Definition of wait: Log onto youtube, watch for updates in uploader's page and stare till a message pops up saying she has uploaded the episode. Alternatively BitTorrent can be your best pal, but the wait is in hours, considering your comp does not crash halfway through a download. Enuff' said. It doesn't help that my sis has compiled a whole list of K-dramas she has caught thus far and I happen to be watching most with her, so that makes me an 'accomplice' too. That unfortunate number is 10+ and growing. Went to a Poh Kim outlet with Deb and Joan, and found myself recommending titles to them like the salesgirl. Couldn't stopped myself in time. Exciting updates...no I am not getting attached or married or pregnant (gave up the thought about this one ever since it was mentioned that we have to give reasons for taking the 2 days of childcare leave. So much for a reward for helping to raise the birth rate of the nation. All you get is a measly 2 days off work and now you have to supply reasons. Read: it's usually for educational purposes of your child. So the young mums are all gonna sign their babies up for courses at 3 months?) Oh yah, what I meant to say is we will be getting a new P. The whole thought is already so intriguing in itself. Guess I need not supply any reasons to explain why I am so excited. Also managed to get 2 days of UPA for study leave. Does that mean I have to get an 'A' now for my module? Better start praying harder. Check these out... (If you find yourself suffering the same fate as me, do let me know I am not alone in this.) Smile Pasta Episode 1 Part 1 Jay Chou - Bai She Feng Che Jay Chou - Tui Hou Jay Chou - Twilight's Chapter Seven (Self-directed by him, I personally thought it was one of the best crafted MVs ever.)
