Monday, February 05, 2007 Countdown...7 days to get back to workHaving a reality check today when Shu called and we chatted about school. Realised that by next Wed, I'll be back slogging away. Game over for my unexpected 'holiday'. The fruit basket that came last Sat was a sombre reminder that I am not going to be at home for long and that I most probably should be productively back at work...soon. As you can see, the cornflakes are to remind me to wake up early for work, the ovaltine biscuits are a sign to tell me you'll probably need these to munch on during those short recess breaks, the Snapples to quench my thirst after classes and the 5 bottles of chicken essence/snow-jelly-like-gross-stuff-from-frogs are to ensure I do not earn another MC for the next week when I return. See, they all say it's the thought that counts yeah? Learn to read between the lines! Anyway, it's still sweet. Shu mentioned that the welfare com fought for this basket for me as they usually order such get-well gifts for sickees who are in hospitalised for a week. I only stayed for 3 days so somehow I do not officially qualify for this 'gift'. Still, they managed to send me something. For this, I hereby thank them for their sweet efforts. Shall save the fruits to go back and share with them. Think they can last another week? Many people have been recommending me to drink sheng yu (eel or snake fish) soup. What you usually get and buy will be those in the chicken essence bottles. The real deal? Check this out: If I am not wrong, I recalled this conversation between my mum and granny while I was lying in bed on Sun morning. Basically, my granny was instructing my mum how to prepare the fish: 'Hold it properly! Must hold the head!Yes, must whack it. Aiyah, why are you so clumsy? Make sure you hit the head hard against the sink!' Thus another honorable fish lies dead to ensure that my two pieces of skin get stuck together faster and don't burst open. It may be ugly, it may be dead, it may be disgusting, but for that moment, I bowed down to utter a prayer of thanks and observed a moment of silence before I gulped down the soup.
