About Human RelationshipsSomething just stirred in me to inspire this post. If you do not wish to get hurt, you need to really maintain some level of self-preservation.
Some tips on how you can stay alive and not be so susceptible to others hurting you:
1) NEVER be vulnerable to anyone about anything in your life that you do not wish to share or let them know. Do not get so close with any one that he/she will get to see the real 'you'. You are putting yourself out there if you do. Remember your past experiences and tell yourself you will not be as silly again.
Once bitten, twice shy.
2) Maintain cordial relationships whenever possible. There is no real need to be chummy with any one in particular. You never know how this friendship or relationship is going to turn out, so might as well take precaution and protect your heart. Prevention is better than cure.
3) It is all about controlling your actions, thoughts, emotions etc. You cannot change how the other person feels about you, but you can sure change the way you feel about it. If you cannot do it naturally, psyche yourself up at least. It is all about trying and persisting till eventually you really believe it and start living it.
Practice makes perfect.
Of course, if you subscribe faithfully to the three methods above, you will eventually find yourself to be a tough nut to crack, a multi-layered onion with a hidden core. You don't hurt others, they won't hurt you.
Alternatively, you can go out there and open your heart to the world. Then be brave and accept what the road leads you to and the people you encounter.
You get hurt, you cry, you feel upset and perhaps bitter...then you wonder why you got there in the first place.
I guess it is all a matter of your choice: a heart of stone or a heart of flesh.
I prefer the former, seriously. You can call me a coward anytime.
