A Day of Highs & Lows and what-nots...

Have you ever been unknowingly bullied into doing something for someone?
Perhaps I should define the word 'unknowingly', meaning you sensed something was kinda out of place but you did not discover the true motive till much later, such as agreeing to help in something and then realising what it was all about.

I just feel so disgusted and cheated. Made used of. Sigh. After the waves of emotion swept past me, the anger, the disbelief...it feels much better now. Could have taken many actions to get back at the person, but I guess I am much calmer now. Going ahead with the decision to 'stand-in' did not signal that I am weak. I believe it will all come back to you...coz God is my avenger. Just didn't feel quite right to be evil and do the same as her. That will probably make me as bad as her.

Enough of ranting...I have been ranting on and off for soo long. Wonder how long this endurance journey and testing God has decided to let me walk through. Quite worried I will snap one day and totally be a bitch. I just might, you never know and you may not even know what hit you.

On a more positive note, Donkey & I will be doing some JT-watever test on Sat and our MPC will probably start in Jan. We shall see what happens. In the meantime, D has taken an interest in wedding stuff and bought a Wedding & Travel mag. I was pretty amused. Kept talking about which hotel is better and within budget. I'm sorry, I guess I'm not really the sort that can stand going rounds and rounds of deliberation, comparison of prices, the 'shopping'...If it eventually happens, I'm gonna get all the help I can. =P

One sleepless night

It's funny how people start thinking a lot when they are sleep deprived. Logically speaking, shouldn't someone with a lack of rest and not be able to regenerate as many cells be somewhat in a mental block and quit thinking, instead of going into brain overactivity?

Can we all feel so alone even though we are not? Can there be a time when all good things come to an end, even though you did not mean for it to? What about a time where you really need to talk to someone and there is just no one available? Or rather, the one you can talk to is the one you can't.

I don't really like this song, yet the lyrics came just like that. Another irony?

The Fear - Lily Allen
I don't know what’s right and what's real anymore
I don't know how I'm meant to feel anymore
When we think it will all become clear
'Cuz I'm being taken over by The Fear

Can it be possible that we will never find the meaning in life? You study hard, get a job, work hard, live your life as best as you can...and then poof, the dust returns to the ground, you pray hard your soul's in heaven and the credits of your life starts rolling...

Ecc 5
18 Then I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given him—for this is his lot. 19 Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work—this is a gift of God. 20 He seldom reflects on the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with gladness of heart.

Perhaps there is a lack of gladness in my heart, causing me to reflect so much on life. Maybe it's just the work of medication for the bad throat and headache. Or the wait for something that did not come. Sleep, oh sleep, wherefore thou art sleep?
Geez, this sounds darn corny. I'll try resting my head on the pillow and wait for dawn to appear.

The Last Wedding...hopefully!

Currently suffering from wedding fatigue. Show me any invite within this week and see how I smack your face with it! *Shudder*

See the cute little counter at the bottom of the right column? Ta-da! Something birthed out of boredom and procrastination, among the stacks of marking piling up and work to be done.

I must say it was a pretty interesting and eventful wedding on Sat for donkey and me. Slaves of the bride for the entire day and we totally crashed when we got back. More than that, the dinner was really amusing. Hmm, let's frame a picture of this together:
Put donkey and me with donkey's ex & her new bf plus D (an unexpected guest). Kinda interesting I must say. Audz will probably balk at this. Perhaps God wants us to learn how to handle all with maturity. =)

Buddy and ps sf both appeared at J's wedding and we managed to catch up a lil'. Felt very assured when both of them were affirming about donkey and I. Not that I was looking for affirmation, but I can't help feeling glad that people who are important to me feel happy for me. It's a nice warm fuzzy feeling.

Was going to mention how some males can be so full of themselves, but I shall spare you the details since it has been the Xth replay of my complains about them since Sat morning. Haven't come across such huge egos in a long while. Incredible how some people are, really! God never fails to amaze me time and again.

Hmm, wonder if donkey's gonna kill me for calling him by this name here. Supposed it's kinda adorable since my 2 lil' darlings are already calling him 'Uncle Donkey' with affection. I just love them so much!

Someone told me today, to focus on making it work rather than looking at what will happen if it doesn't. Such simple words yet it touched me at that point of sharing.
I guess besides my 2 lovely darlings, another creature has crept into my heart and make me smile and beam whenever I think of or mention him.

Tried to moderate my blog postings whenever possible to include a positve entry with a negative (aka whining post) so as not to display general passiveness and pessimistic sharings about my sad tragic little life. =)

Too bad this one is a negative one. Just needed the space to let this out before it eats me inside. Probably the frustration stems from many individual episodes of 'sh*t' clearing and I really don't know when enough is enough. Or perhaps I'm just the 'lucky' one or the convenient one for that matter. I am beginning to suspect this is part of my job scope.

Anyway, it was a Saturday morning to school without my car (I am seriously pampered and spoilt) to take 2 cute lil' boys for a competition at Buena V. Someone who is reading this should know (I think she does) that I really really love you a lot. What I was (still am a little)unhappy about was the possible offered solutions behind-the-scenes, which rendered me the only available one to carry out this duty. So my dear, you are not the one to blame for my plight.

Sometimes I really wonder (up to now) if that few extra bucks per month is worth it. I love the core part of my job, the kids and all, but certainly not the additional top-ups. Okay, I've said it all. Think I feel better right now. =) Think after much reflection, especially on Sunday during worship, that I really need Him to give me the guidance on walking this path. Almost one year down and I am still struggling with the demands of the job. Others seem to think I'm doing fine, because they tell me so in full confidence. It doesn't make things easier. Let's get through this week, leaving the week into the Lord's hands. With J's wedding this Saturday, I doubt I can get the rest I want again.

On a side note, I think I am really beginning to be one of those irritating complain queens around and I hate myself for that. ARRGHH! I aspire to change. Change I must and will do.

Hmmm, so I need something uplifting to level up this post. End with a cheery note. I am slowly discovering how, besides having Him who loves me so much, having someone can be a huge blessing. It is not a need to have a particular someone. To me, it is a bonus and I thank God for it. Inside me I still have a quiet fear that things may not work out but I am learning to give this little hushed fear to the Lord. I have never felt quite like this in any previous relationships, perhaps because I wasn't totally letting myself go. So, if he happens to be reading this, I want to say I thank God for you and you have blessed me more than what I have for you.=)

Psalm 25:4-5
4 Show me your ways, O LORD,
teach me your paths;

5 guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.

Didn't realise my last entry was in Oct last year. My goodness! No wonder I get ticked off by people about not having updates here. Oops.

Sudden urge to log on and blog. I wonder whether you do have a day or time like what I had today. All of a sudden, you just get this sense of hopelessness and dread. Then you get a little down, not wanting to do anything but simply sit or lie down and stone. I took time off to seek the Lord, reflecting over what and why I'm feeling the way I do. I am still not sure if it was prompted by what happened in school today - this idiotic vendor who disappears mysteriously without informing you and you end up selling stuff on his behalf. Amazed how stone cool pissed I was and yet able to speak to him in a low slow tone. I AM good!

Work has slowly become a silent dread. Not the teaching, mind you. Spending time with my kiddos is the best part of this job. Just the stuff you do in between the classes, during/pre/post endless meetings you are required to attend. Things you are supposed to remember, arrange, do on behalf of people, double check...what-have-yous. Things that get thrown in your face, things unexpected, things expected but turned out different...

Anyway, a gentle reminder as we approach Valentine's day that He is our ultimate valentine. This was what He revealed to me in my rare moment of sitting down seeking Him. Are you deeply in love with Him? Or is it you were? Found it hard to really mean what I sing in this song. Maybe it's time to pause and realign our lives with Him. If something is overtaking the throne position in your heart, let Him overshadow that and regain His reign again.

Hmm gosh, I feel like such a holy moley. Welcome to daily bread with Elise!=p

Something to ponder about:
Deeply in Love - Youth Alive

In my life You've heard me say
I love you
How do I show you it's true
hear my heart, it longs for more of you..
I've fallen deeply in love with you..

You have stolen my heart
I'm captivated by you
Never will you and I part
I've fallen deeply in love with you

You and I, together for ever
Nothing can, stand in the way
My love for you, grows stronger
each new day.
I've fallen deeply in love with you

You have stolen my heart
I'm captivated by you
Never will you and I part
I've fallen deeply in love with you

You have stolen my heart
I'm captivated by you
Never will you and I part
I've fallen deeply in love with you

Fatigue

The dictionary gave its meaning as extreme tiredness. I don't know how it feels like any more. 'Tired' is simply another overused word to cover how one feels about life and matters in general.

Q: So how are you?
A: Tired.

Q: What have you been up to?
A: Nothing much, just tired.

Q: How are you feeling?
A: Tired.

Q: Why do you look unwell? Are you sick?
A: No, just tired.

Ability to cope with pressure and stress from work is one factor bosses look out for when identifying people for the job or assessing their potential. I wonder how 'tired' falls into their category. Is this person simply terribly sleep deprived or is he not able to handle the stress and pressure?

'Tired' can mean many things - sick of everything else, finds no meaning in things one does, wishes to sleep/back out of something/do nothing, signals don't bother him/her, 'i wish to go somewhere else', 'stop all this sh*t from happening'...

Interesting isn't it? Perhaps when you walk pass someone and you do your usual greeting, see if you can spot the word 'tired' in his answer.

About Human Relationships

Something just stirred in me to inspire this post. If you do not wish to get hurt, you need to really maintain some level of self-preservation.
Some tips on how you can stay alive and not be so susceptible to others hurting you:

1) NEVER be vulnerable to anyone about anything in your life that you do not wish to share or let them know. Do not get so close with any one that he/she will get to see the real 'you'. You are putting yourself out there if you do. Remember your past experiences and tell yourself you will not be as silly again.
Once bitten, twice shy.

2) Maintain cordial relationships whenever possible. There is no real need to be chummy with any one in particular. You never know how this friendship or relationship is going to turn out, so might as well take precaution and protect your heart. Prevention is better than cure.

3) It is all about controlling your actions, thoughts, emotions etc. You cannot change how the other person feels about you, but you can sure change the way you feel about it. If you cannot do it naturally, psyche yourself up at least. It is all about trying and persisting till eventually you really believe it and start living it.
Practice makes perfect.

Of course, if you subscribe faithfully to the three methods above, you will eventually find yourself to be a tough nut to crack, a multi-layered onion with a hidden core. You don't hurt others, they won't hurt you.

Alternatively, you can go out there and open your heart to the world. Then be brave and accept what the road leads you to and the people you encounter.
You get hurt, you cry, you feel upset and perhaps bitter...then you wonder why you got there in the first place.

I guess it is all a matter of your choice: a heart of stone or a heart of flesh.
I prefer the former, seriously. You can call me a coward anytime.

My mind has been pretty occupied these days and in overdrive. Perhaps that is why last night was the third time I slept on the couch, thinking it was supposed to be a short nap before another round of marking.

I seem to be losing my cool quite often recently. Just another 'eruption' yesterday and am still feeling slightly unjustified. Anyway, the interesting thing was the email I received when I got home. An email from a Masters coursemate about vacancies for EL LH elsewhere. Sets me thinking how possible it would be to move to another place. Things just seem to be dreary and little dumb things keep popping up to make me sick. To move or not to move...I guess at least for now I have no choice but to stay. Some sort of moral obligation to fulfill and my sense of purpose seems to be eroding by the minute.

Every day just seem to pass by one after another. It is getting rather tiresome. I've immersed myself in work and it's really all about work. Getting out sometimes is tiring, so is meeting up with people sometimes. Truly certified workaholic.

Been so busy marking the exam scripts that I have been oblivious to the seemingly lil tragedies happening around this no loner sunny but terribly rainy island.

Tragedy 1: Mas Selamat's Escape (More of a boo-boo)
Been enjoying hilarious podcasts about the escaped convict on Mr Brown. Aside from laughing at the utter silliness of the entire incident, I can't help but think he's long gone, shaking legs at some remote Indonesian island, slurping a pina colada. Hmm, that is the holiday I had wanted this March! Geez!

Tragedy 2: Accident @ TPE
The mere image of the crushed Starlet is enough to send shudders down my spine. Think about the poor driver inside the wrecked crumpled heap...I promise to drive safely and try not to be wedged between a bus and a lorry. Who knows perhaps my lil Ang Gu Kueh cannot take it as well.

Tragedy 3: Singaporeans displaying 'national pride' by NOT donating to a PRC's cause
We used to pride ourselves on our generosity, and many countries have cited us as examples to follow. Now, it seems if you are a mugger, speaks in a foreign Chinese accent and wear rather dowdy clothes, you are therefore not eligible for donations. I must admit I was once there, one who shrugs my shoulders and cringe when one of them tries to speak. Now, even during my Masters course, there's even a lady beside me who takes photos of tutor's slides and materials (paper) using her trusty digital camera. Last time I recalled, she even asked me to lend her the notes that I had randomly jotted down (in the brief moments I had been listening to the tutor). If she is ever sick, I will be more than glad to give a helping hand, I mean a bundle of helpful dollars.

Tragedy 4: Rainy days when you need to work
We should have a new ruling: no work to be done during stormy weather and all to cuddle up in bed to stay warm. That should refuse the number of accidents happening. Even thinking about driving in the rain makes me tired.

Tragedy 5: A to-do list that never ends in a holiday that is fast counting down
No explanation needed. I guess we all can relate to this.

Total Deflation

When you stop to think what are the things that have been driving your life and all you see are events, activities or things to tick off in your to-do checklist, it's total deflation time. Like a balloon that's been losing its puffiness, you will eventually become a piece of limp, flat, overstretched rubber.

No huge upheavals in my life, unlike last year. Simply everyone or everything that seems to need or want to warrant my attention.
The thing that signalled this deflation period for me was the immense drive and desire to chill out, hopefully with a glass of wine (or actually any alcohol-laden beverage), kick off my heels and NUAH. Can't seem to find a better word to replace this. Absolute nothingness. That led to the impromptu trip w shu down to Axis bar @ Oriental last night. Though a short few hours, doused with an excellent white in my hand, it seemed like eternal bliss.

A peek into ewok's life of living for other people, besides JC*...
1. Mega big arrow to do newsletter for the school from the boss himself. I do not mind at all - I forsee huge learning curve ahead, which is something that is exciting for me. Well, there is a slight difference between arrowing me via email and personally one-to-one. I prefer the latter. All you have to do is ask, nicely.

2. The need to prepare cell grp for chris's girls. Day in and out, five days a week I'm surrounded by kids. Now I face them on alternate Sundays too. If there is something called overdose, this is definitely it. Perhaps the harsh reality has set in - I may have been too innocent and ambitious to agree to help.

3. My CNY ang bao from my module coordinator - 1500 word essay due on 13 Feb. Dreams of my doing-nothing life has just been smashed. Make that total obliteration. Apocalypse. KA-PUT.

4. Rearranging my schedule or things to do around other people's schedules. No, I went for facial instead of cell reunion dinner. I'm sorry for not being there but not apologetic that I missed it. I booked the session beforehand, way before this came along. I shouldn't feel bad, should I?

5. Sitting around (Some call it resting) at home on a Saturday - working my butt off because through the entire week, there was zilch time to mark or plan or do anything other than meetings meetings and more meetings. Not to mention cover minimal readings for the modules.

6. Need to relook timetable schedules for the entire level so there will be (ideally) no clashes during the coming exams. I need divine intervention.

*Just to clarify, it means Jesus Christ, not Jay Chou. Thought you may be mistaken.
I caught you there, didnt I? ;P

Think I need a Linkin Park song and dear old Chester to screech out all my frustrations and lil' boring complaints.
Welcome to my life! (Oops, that's Simple Plan?)

On a positive note, J's concert cd is coming out soon and his movie's opening this Thurs. You know you are pathetic when you look forward to things like these. That is PATHETIC spelled in capital letters.

About Plays and Relief

Been a long time where I have the privilege to be at the edge of my seat (literally) and enjoy a wonderfully written and touching script being played out. Of course, I haven't had the privilege to even go out in a while now...but it really made my evening. Can't deny though it is grossly disturbing, but I'm just so glad I caught it. Walked out of the theatre feeling everyone seems to have had a terribly abusive childhood and that all must have been screwed up once in a while. So thought-provoking that I could hardly sleep after that.

Yup, results are finally out. Felt really glad that my darlings made it through to secondary school, but that feeling did not last. Realised that that wasn't good enough. Next came the tough decision of plaing them in WHICH school, since their scores ain't fantastic. Sigh. Anyway, much on my mind was how some kiddos really feel appreciative for you beng there, while others simply credit themselves for the effort. Not that I've done much, but one tends to think a lil thank you will be sweet. A few of them did exceptionlly well and I'm really really proud of them - especially those in my remedial class and managed to ace their English. Wishing them all the best in their next journey in life and yeah, I'm definitely going to miss them.

Came back from the GEP conference, where the high and mighty educators teaching in the Gifted Education or so called High Ability Learners gather and celebrate their successes and achievements. Simply felt out of place. Come on, why don't they have a conference on middle ability students and how to stretch their potential? These so called geniuses will somehow make it in the future, with or without gaining EQ. You should have seen the slides stating number of people getting BLAH BLAH BLAH awards, scholarships etc. I felt the heart of PM Lee's speech about reaching peaks of excellence for every child lies more in the mainstream children. Also came to realise one thing - you don't need to be able to speak well or present yourself well in order to be a VP. A shocking discovery - rather revelationary anyway. My eyes rolled back so much they almost popped out of their sockets! Then, the thought of teaching a better class next year became depressing. To the hell with the dumb perception that 'good teachers take the good classes'. On the positive side, let's see how much I can put the things I've learnt into the classroom. Already have the feeling I may just love the other class compared to my form.

A chat with shu surprisingly made me feel lighter, despite the dark contents of our sharing. I thought I was the one to listen to her share and be a support, but I ended up being blessed somehow too. So much I want to change yet so much still nt within my power and control. This is one area I really need to seek God about - the exit door doesn't seem to be available so the only option is to stay. Must be a reason and purpose why I'm here. Guess I have to find out.

Happy Birthday Singapore!

This is truly one day where I completely felt patriotic, especially when we all sang the Majulah Singapura, recite the national pledge and goosebumps instantaneously stood up when the kiddos sang along to a familiar national day song. Plus the fact that I do get a holiday - two days to be exact - for this special occasion.

Many people will no doubt have many misgivings and complaints about this sunny island. Firstly, what is with the fuss of the pronunciation of 'Espla-nard' and 'Espla -nade'? Or about the white elephant LRT station Buangkok, conveniently located near the IMH? Or about the increase in GST? Or the increasing power of netizens declaring their stands and takes on matters of the nation? Or (okie, this one really gets to me) the tagline for our dear Tourism Board's promotion for the nation titled 'Uniquely Singapore'? Shouldn't it be "Uniquely SingaporEAN'? Or if you insist, 'Unique Singapore' and drop the 'ly' at the end. What happened to the 4 master teachers who evade our papers every weekend to complain about falling standards of English and the common errors we Singaporeans make daily? Shouldn't they stand up to say something about such a glaring mistake?

However, whenever I consider the relatively clean and non-potholed roads we have, the natural shelter from sunny weather planted almost every two three steps apart along the roads, the regular workers in neon vests digging or resurfacing roads which I remember to have perfectly no problems, free tissue packets given as advertisement flyers, free music from buskers awaiting you as you waltz into the train stations, free newspapers to entertain you on your almost seamless train rides, people scrambling for National Day tickets and even offering high bids for them, donating a few coins in exchange for a sticker to avoid pesky flag students...the list goes on, I thank God for this little red dot where we really have been immensely blessed.

Yes, I belong to the group of people who feel the fireworks is the best and only worthy item of the entire parade. That tearing down the National Stadium is really a sad but inevitable end - who can forget the ammonia scented walkways in the labyrinth of steps and stairs? That the older national day songs like Stand Up for Singapore, We are Singapore etc are still the best songs ever composed to stir up national pride. I wouldn't want to be in another place, though I have not seen much of the world out there but enough for me to feel at home right here.

Hmm..on second thoughts, if only we start to pay teachers more since it is the most overworked and underpaid profession around, and start appreciating and showing them respect. Now that will be really ho seh!

Lastly, something to make your day as it did for me...

What Teachers Make, or
Objection Overruled, or
If things don't work out, you can always go to law school

By Taylor Mali
www.taylormali.com

He says the problem with teachers is, "What's a kid going to learn
from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?"
He reminds the other dinner guests that it's true what they say about
teachers:
Those who can, do; those who can't, teach.

I decide to bite my tongue instead of his
and resist the temptation to remind the other dinner guests
that it's also true what they say about lawyers.

Because we're eating, after all, and this is polite company.

"I mean, you¹re a teacher, Taylor," he says.
"Be honest. What do you make?"

And I wish he hadn't done that
(asked me to be honest)
because, you see, I have a policy
about honesty and ass-kicking:
if you ask for it, I have to let you have it.

You want to know what I make?

I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could.
I can make a C+ feel like a Congressional medal of honor
and an A- feel like a slap in the face.
How dare you waste my time with anything less than your very best.

I make kids sit through 40 minutes of study hall
in absolute silence. No, you may not work in groups.
No, you may not ask a question.
Why won't I let you get a drink of water?
Because you're not thirsty, you're bored, that's why.

I make parents tremble in fear when I call home:
I hope I haven't called at a bad time,
I just wanted to talk to you about something Billy said today.
Billy said, "Leave the kid alone. I still cry sometimes, don't you?"
And it was the noblest act of courage I have ever seen.

I make parents see their children for who they are
and what they can be.

You want to know what I make?

I make kids wonder,
I make them question.
I make them criticize.
I make them apologize and mean it.
I make them write, write, write.
And then I make them read.
I make them spell definitely beautiful, definitely beautiful, definitely
beautiful
over and over and over again until they will never misspell
either one of those words again.
I make them show all their work in math.
And hide it on their final drafts in English.
I make them understand that if you got this (brains)
then you follow this (heart) and if someone ever tries to judge you
by what you make, you give them this (the finger).

Let me break it down for you, so you know what I say is true:
I make a goddamn difference! What about you?

Have you ever felt like crying but somehow you can't seem to do it? Was almost choked to tears twice while hugging 2 gals today - siti when she came to say bye, and audz when she dropped me off after work.
Just an avalanche of emotions, possibly stemming from my kiddo B who simply refused to help himself, a compulsive liar and tries to win your favour back when he does somthing wrong. It's simply so tiringand emotionally draining. I feel there is nothing else I can give. And this helplessness pervades even beyond the teaching part...it's slowly seeping in to my soul as I continue to rush from place to place, project to project, work to work, person to person. It makes me want to lie down, refuse to do anything but curl myself up and sleep myself silly.
"The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
Psalm 34:18
Came across this page and thought it was a pretty interesting detailed response to depression.
Anyway, read this inspiring speech (which apparently appeared in Akeelah and the Bee which I have not caught) in class yesterday. We had a fun time reading ot out for our oracy module.

Our Greatest Fear —Marianne Williamson

It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves,
who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
How cool is that. I'm thinking of things I can do to cheer my lil' wounded soul up, like catching the fireworks on thurs night (but not with the crowds), going to the Jay Chou movie, heading for a run, hug someone and cry on their shoulder...

Harry Potter's Scar

Was reminded of his scar when mine started to feel a little painful today. Can't say that mine is as exciting as his lightning-shaped one, but you can give me credit for the sheer length of it all. Managed to get the gynae appointment next Fri, meaning my National Day weekend will be incredibly filled with 'meaningful' outings and lesser time to bum around at home nor get the rest which I desperately need. I have taken to sleeping beside a pile of unmarked compositions beside me every night. Latest update: I managed to clear a stack from last term, which means I have one stack left as well as two fresh piles from the recent diagnostic test.

Anyway, Harry's a disappointment. So much talk about his impending death and I had to shut others out in fear they will reveal the ending to me. Starting a new book, A Spot of Bother, by Mark Haddon. Was waiting for the soft-cover book to arrive.

Headed to Spa Esprit Downtown for a Scent-sational Aromatherapy Massage yesterday evening. The online menu describes it...

Knead your way into muscle submission with the help of a bit of aromatherapy luxe from our in-house Happy Oil Book. The natural herbal extracts from the aromatherapy oils will bring healing therapies to your body when your skin absorbs it and you breathe it in. What's more we're not dealing with any ol' oils here but Grade A quality direct from the UK.

My chosen Happy Oil...7th Heaven. Did not exactly there get there but at least the general tightness in my back muscles were somewhat loosened. Still kinks here and there but hey, I paid about 100 bucks for this...The room was so dark I couldn't really see very clearly. So much for all the wonderful pictures I saw online. It was beyond romantic as I couldn't really enjoy the nice decor. Well, my way for comforting myself over the Corrine May concert which happened to be last night too.

Chatting with my gd pals from work and it birthed some projects which I may want to try for the EL dept.
1) Composition Writing Skills Package - incorporating group work into writing, going into teaching of skills rather than content, all with the element of fun. Needs to be sustainable and planned over the span of the 3 years for Upper Pri, more like a building up of skills.
I was very inspired after a couple of sessions with my kids and seeing the work being churned out. The test will show if the lessons worked. My personal AR project.
2) Perhaps something for teaching Comprehension to students struggling with understanding. This one is tough, I will really need to sit through and start thinking.
3) Using songs in teaching of Grammar - come up with resource of mp3s, worksheets, activities...

Looks like my December hols will TRULY be well-spent. Rather anticipating the start of the new sem for my classes...Mondays and Wednesdays. Back to my crazy life soon...my sabbatical is officially over.

Feeling pretty unsettled emotionally this week. Emotions just seem to surge and I can barely describe how I'm feeling. One of the triggers is probably Corrine May's upcoming Beautiful Seed concert. Just as I was thinking of booking the ticket online, I realised that I needed to find another who's willing to go with me. That led me to think of people who probably are my pals but are just not interested. Interested parties are perhaps a little tricky to invite. My convenient and trusty sis is having camp on that day. I can somehow see the future ahead of me - no buddy, no Corrine. It's probably not that important, I can always give Corrine a miss I guess, having gone for most of her homecoming concerts since I fell in love with 'Journey'.

Yet no one but me knows the significance of each concert to me. Each song, each word is like ministry to me. Strangely no matter where I am in the season of life, her songs just seem to echo and resonate within my soul. Often not, I'm touched by the songs, as if God is using them to speak to me, or even stories of my lil' short life.

Quite worried abt my little heart. Not too long ago, I asked God to heal that part that has been aching so much, and He did released me from much bitterness. I'm still grieving over the loss but I know He's slowly healing me. I'm just so afraid to let my little heart feel again, just in case I get hurt or disappointed all over again. There's always this instinctive self-check if my heart goes out to someone, wondering if it will come back broken and bruised. Perhaps even the person responsible may not know.

Nuff' of the ramblings...moving on to the lighter fluffier stuff. This is my rice-bento-box story, courtesy of Ed Silvoso's conference. Weird that only me and cyn would feel so much about the dinner.
Before I go on, just a check - Will you be satisfied with eating sandwiches for dinner?
Option (A) Yes
(B) No - obviously!

If your answer to the above question is (A), you are someone who do not appreciate a good meal, let alone a good dinner. You gobble up whatever you can lay your hands on and probably do not care what you are eating as long as your stomach gets filled up.

If your answer is (B), congratulations! You belong to the food-appreciative lot. Firstly, my theory - no one, I mean NO ONE, will ever want to or willing eat sandwiches (let alone TUNA) for dinner, while there are other choices like seafood fried rice and veg pasta. I think only Cyn can empathise with me on this.

The pain comes in a greater measure when my fellow cell member's hubby sweetly exchanged his rice with her sad sandwich (note: alliteration) upon the knowledge that his poor wifey has to rely on bread to sustain the evening. The stab in the heart came when she offered to share with me, insisting that it was more than enough for her.

At that very instant, it was as if the heavens opened and the veil from my eyes was taken away - I NEED a Boyfriend/Husband/Watever that is willing to trade his bento box for mine. Rice is nice - no matter lunch or dinner.
So, if you happen to chance upon this entry, and know anyone who's willing to do that (you yourself included, provided that you are a male), step right up and drop your contact in the tag board below.

As if the revelation did not hit home, the movie Bad English certainly did. An older woman so feared being alone that she plunges herself into relationships that did not pay off. Pressure from friends, family and within herself took a toll on her. I simply loved the part where one of the French man was advising her in a bar - that most people look for someone to be there for them, yet some people look for the magic in relationships, which sadly, not all everyone will find it.
Ouch, you can simply hear my heart crack that instant. Thankfully, no one else at the theatre did. How poignant!

Someone told me this, and I can still remember so clearly the words: 'Guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.'
I can only say I'm trying my best.

One word that the Lord spoke during service today that really hit me...wait (in submission).
Isaiah 40:31
'Those that wait on the Lord will soar with wings like eagles...'

It is not merely the act of waiting, but to wait on Him, the drawing close to a God that loves you so much.

Why do we not hear answers to what we ask or pray for? Perhaps we ain't close enough to hear the whispers of God. Like the story shared by pastor today - God usually whispers in His answers. Our response? Draw close to Him and you will meet Him face to face. Therein lie your answers. Incline your ear towards Him, snuggle up to His feet and simply wait as He speaks.

Blogging this after a night out with the gals. Elison came back this week and we managed to catch each other over dinner @ Timbre, thanks to joan who originally wanted to catch some Mexican-band-of-sorts (even the owner couldn't pronounce the band name) play live.

Was at first a bit miffed when I was told I am way too skinny and need to get my weight back etc (still trying to get used to it). It started to disturb me when these following people starts talking about it as if I'm an anorexic girl:

1) This takes the cake man. The coffeeshop auntie near my school started rambling about how much weight I've lost and that it must be due to pressure. Gave me a mini talk on how using the brains for work would be more draining than the manual work she was doing, so I better take care and pump up on the tonics. She's a sweet lady, but the audience she wasaddressing that day seemed to be the entire lunch-time crowd at the coffeeshop besides me.

2) Elison. A good gauge I suppose at how much I've lost since she hasn't seen me in months. Still...and she did a physical probe. She actually poked my collar bones and felt the bones beneath. Experiment done and null hypothesis proven true: I AM SKINNY.

3) The gals. Comments started pouring in about the need to take tonics, what to eat, etc. I love them...

What made it worse was the fact that I felt faint on my way to the washroom. Hmm, faint is an understatement. My ears were totally blocked and my vision was pixelated. The ground was shaking and I couldn't stand straight up. This, I know, was not the usual 'high' due to the beer. It came in waves. After resting on the steps next to the washroom with Deb, it was much better, till I managed to get out of the restaurant, when the next wave hit. I had to take another breather on the kerb at the carpark. The following mini one hit while I was waiting for the cab. Speculations about the cause of my condition arose and it was interesting to hear the conflicting schools of thought.

Thankfully, I didn't stumble out of the cab, presumably having sat down throught out the journey really helped put bearings back in my head. Even managed to cook instant noodles to quell the rumbling tummy, while I surfed for a medical reason. This is indeed a great site, complete with 3D imaging of the human body and you get to check and click the parts of the body affected etc. Incredible! Anyway, 20 conditions came up in my search. One of them is anaemia, which is term I recognised, besides ear infection and allergic reaction. So, no tumours in the brain! Hurray!

This is where I'll be going for my short getaway.

Okay, this is the best picture I can find on the website. I am eagerly anticipating green waters, because you usually get disappointed when you are there right on the ground. Still, one can always hope.
Sometimes I think procrastiantion ain't all bad. My relunctance to do work the last few days managed to get me:
1) Tickets to King Lear - managed to settle everything including finding someone and getting confirmation via MSN in one sitting. Shu's gonna reprimand me again if she knew I'm paying 200 bucks for it. Well, it's Ian Mckellen, you know, better known as Magneto in X-men and Gandalf in LOTR.
2) Confirming tickets to Nathan Hartono's gig. Who's he? 15-year-old ACS boy who can truly sing, though still rather raw. Plus point too as he's cute. Anymore description and I'll truly feel like a paedophile. Gosh. Hear him to believe it.
3) Catch-up sessions with Siao cb and Huishan. Truly long-awaited ones.
Do you know that Singapore ranks 131 out of 178 countries in the happiness index? We truly are an unhappy bunch of people! Just as I feel I'm one in the melancholic, you-dun-understand-me, pensive club, this other lady on tv wins hands-down. A lyricist, she describes being unhappy even though she's married with kids and has been winning awards for her songs. I can't complain about my life man. Not with her around.
Hmm I don't seem to be much happier either...My index.

V for Victory!

Strange how a lil kiddo can truly make your day. Was in class, distributing spelling books and facilitating as the kids try out some vocab exercises when out of the blue, V's voice ran out,"Ji Jiu! Ji Jiu(Emergency Rescue)!" Irritated that he dared to interrupt their desk work, I was about to pounce on him when I saw what he was doing.

V was rushing to another boy's table, grabbed a UHU glue stick and busily rubbing it onto a tiny piece of paper. It was the tiny Post-it flap I stuck on his spelling book to remind him about dictation corrections. Somehow it was torn into 2 and he flew into a panic. He glued it onto a huge A4 white piece of paper and proceeded to cut the 'mended' flap out. To ensure it was secure, he included 3 staples on it, somewhat like the stitches on a wound. I only saw the finished product when he came and asked me about the dictation passage, as he could not find it. It brought a smile to my face and warmth to my heart.

Background of V? A terribly cheena boy who spouts grammatically incorrect sentences if he has to converse in English and is brilliantly fluent in Mandarin, often forced by me to translate what he wants to say from Mandarin to English. A boy whose face turned beetroot red when I merely placed my hand over his shoulder once and whispered to him to concentrate in class, while the whole class watched on. My reliable 'spy' cum bodyguard for this other boy who has a tendency to sneak home after sch without reporting to me.

Shall post up a photo of the tiny flap, perhaps frame it up or something when it comes back to me on Tue.
